Obituary of Tommy "Tom" Henry Blommaert

Tommy "Tom"  Henry Blommaert, a resident of Dresden, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Windsor Regional Hospital at the age of 68. Born in Chatham, the son of the late Louis and Irma (Van Damme) Blommaert. Tom is survived by daughters Bailee Sacerty (Garrett) and Nicole Coles (Brandon); and their mother Kathleen Betts (Kipp); grandchildren Quinn and Callie Sacerty, Alaina and Alivia Coles; dear friend Cathy Dewagner and sisters-in-law Joanne Blommaert and Carol (Blommaert) Simpson. Sadly missed by his nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers Richard, Willy, Henny; sisters Emmy Ide (Jerome), Nellie Hinks, Ann Blommaert and niece Brenda Ide Schaffer.

Tom loved his family, especially his granddaughters. His favourite pastime was to play cards, mostly euchre and poker. He greatly enjoyed hosting Wednesday poker with the guys. Taking other people’s money kept him giggling. He took pride in keeping his yard well manicured.

He worked for Eatons in Wallaceburg for 28 years until it closed. He then spent a few years at Martinrea and Penske. He spent time delivering for Bob's Produce and in most recent years for Dresden Meat Packers whom treated him like family. He was a long time member at the Dresden Legion and Bar Steward for many years before his retirement there last year.

He was quick witted and was always there when needed, even through his many health struggles. One thing most people knew about dad, he did not like to share his lemon pie. He enjoyed Sunday drives and dinner out with Cathy or watching a movie. Hockey was always on the television while he enjoyed his Pepsi, which he always had to have.

We thank those who were there for him over the years, he cherished everyone who crossed his path and touched his life in some way.

Cremation will take place with interment at a later date in Dresden Cemetery. A Celebration of Tom's Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 113 on Sunday, September 22, 2024 from 1-4 p.m. If desired, donations may be made to Lupus Canada or Royal Canadian Legion Br. 113, Dresden. Online donations and condolences may be left at www.badderfuneralhome.com
